| This is my favorite story, my Keane fan fic. Enjoy. On a tour bus full of people, there was a tape recorder laying on the floor of one room, playing loudly. A trumpet sounded, then the unmistakable cuckoo of a cuckoo clock, a boinging noise, and a male choir singing an annoying little song, followed by a male voice with a British accent saying, "Come on, do I have to get up at all?" A young American girl's voice replied, "Yes, Tom, you have to get up." Tom Chaplin sounded disappointed."But Tim and Richard aren't up yet, why should I be, Storm?" Storm Cloud smiled mischievously. "You want I should get the air horns?" "Do I get one?" "I said 'air hornS', with an 's', of course you get one. Now, go stand over there, and I'll stand over there, and when I give you the signal, you close the door. Then, when you hear my air horn, you blow yours. 'K?" Tom nodded. "Good." Storm smiled. She padded into the "back lounge", then gave Tom a thumbs-up and closed the door. She then ruffled her long red and purple hair, and her clothing. She blew her air horn for about 30 seconds, then she hid it behind a pillow, and collapsed on the chaise lounge, making it look like she was asleep. She heard Tom's air horn go off, and smiled. She counted in her head, "3, 2, 1..." As she reached "1", an angered (and tired) Tim Rice-Oxley entered. "STORM! Did you have anything to do with the air horns just a moment ago?" Before Storm had a chance to reply, a voice sounded from the other side of the bus. "Tim! I found the air horn!" Tim smiled. "That's great, Rich. Bring him here." Richard Hughes came in, dragging Tom behind him. Storm smiled."It was Tom's idea, but he needed some help, so I helped him. It was fun." She pulled out the air horn from behind the pillow, and blew it again. Rich sighed. "I remember when you first came on the bus. Quiet, distant, always scribbling away in your notebook, sort of like Tim. Until Tom gave you sugar, then you became, well, you." The four became lost in a flashback, back to the day Storm came on tour with Keane. They had a contest to find an opening act for their upcoming US tour. Storm sent in her tape, and the band loved her. That was that, and Storm won the contest. She flew to England to meet the band, and then flew back with them to the States. Rich was right. For the first few days, Storm was so nervous around the band, she was very quiet and reserved, which wasn't normal for her. The only evidence of her true personality was the wild outfits she picked for the concerts. Until one day, Tom unwittingly gave her sugar, and her true super-hyper personality shone through her nerves, and she had never gone back to the quiet, reserved girl she had been. Tom and Tim said they liked the new super-hyper, over-caffinated Storm. Richard preferred the quiet Storm, who he said was less annoying. Her new pastime became the art of annoying Richard. It worked quite nicely, because he always reacted. During the first leg of the tour, she convinced the band to make 3 stops in New Hampshire, where she grew up. They agreed, and made stops in Manchester, Hampton and Gilford, much to the delight of Storm and several New Hampshire Keane fans, some of whom Storm had converted to Keane-maniacs herself. By the night of the concert in Manchester, Storm was crying on pure nervousness. Right before Storm was about to go on stage, Tom pulled her aside, and gently sang her a few lines from "Hamburg Song" - "I'd like/To bring a little light/Shine a light on your life/Make you feel loved." Storm responded, "Just shine, shine, shine/Shine a little light/Shine a light on my life/Warm me up again." Tom smiled encouragingly. "You'll do great. Now go out there and show them how happy you are to be home." But Storm and Tom had met once before, a year to be exact, at the same arena. Storm had ordered tickets, but for whatever reason, the ticket guy wouldn't give them to her. Meanwhile, Tom, sick of being stuck in the venue, went for a walk, and found Storm in mid-argument with the ticket guy.He demanded he leave her alone and give her the 'K13' ticket package she ordered. Mr. Ticket Guy couldn't argue with Tom, so he handed the ticket package over. When they were safely inside the arena, he told her to open it. She almost fainted when she saw what was inside. "A front row ticket AND papers for a backstage pass? But, I only ordered a balcony ticket!" Tom laughed. "Yeah, but you didn't hit that ticket guy, you deserve it." Storm smiled shyly. "Well, I almost did." Tom laughed, and instructed her to walk up behind the security guy, because he'd be so confused as to how she ended up there, he'd give her the pass, no question. Storm did as she was told, and it worked. No questions asked. Tom, glad it worked, brought Storm backstage to meet Tim and Richard. That night, Storm had left the arena before the performance, and took a breath of New Hampshire air. She sighed, "I am oh, SO happy to be home." She then heard a familiar voice by the ticket booth, and wandered over to see if she could be of assistance. There she saw her music teacher, Mrs. Albert, arguing with the same ticket guy Storm had argued with a year before. She calmly sauntered over, nodded to her teacher, and began yelling at the ticket guy, demanding a K13 package. The ticket guy looked no more willing to give the package to Storm, he obviously remembered the over - caffenated girl from a year back, but at an angry glare, and a flash of her cell phone, and the pair, teacher and student, were in the arena, Mrs. Albert holding a backstage pass, and front row ticket. Storm had brought her backstage to meet the band, but when they arrived, the door was closed and locked. Storm maniacally began beating the door with her fists. Tom opened it, and got a face full of over -excited Storm. She suddenly seemed to regain her composure, and she introduced Mrs. Albert to the band, saying, "This is the teacher who convinced me to send in my tape." Tom smiled. "So if it wasn't for her, we'd never have met?" Storm's green eyes glowed happily. "Right!" Their eyes connected and they both smiled. Before Storm went onstage, Tom pulled her aside to wish her good luck. They caught each others' eyes, and one could easily see the connection between them. Tom insisted on going to see Storm's performance, and Tim noticed that Storm sang all the love songs in her set with extra conviction, and that Tom was focused on her the entire time. Storm's last song, and Keane's first was a duet between the two of them, their cover of Sheryl Crow and Sting's "Always On Your Side". Tim could seethere was something there so he made a point to ask her after the show. When he did, she became extremely defensive. He knew he was right. The next morning, Storm was on her laptop computer, and laughing hysterically. Tom sauntered and asked her what on this earth she was laughing at. She, still laughing, pointed at the computer screen. There was a picture of them duetting the night before, and an obviously fake picture of a kiss between them. Tom laughed almost as hard as Storm had, and Storm asked warily, "Do you think they know, about, well...us?" Tom just smiled. "Probably not. You know the tabloids. They see a juicy rumor and they're all over it. If they knew, I'd say that it was the first sign of the Apocalypse. They just -" "Second," Storm interrupted. "The first sign was us." Tom laughed, and sighed. "True. Although if they want to print pictures of us, we should give them actual pictures of us, not this fake sh-". Before Tom could finish his sentence, Storm snapped the laptop shut, and smiled nervously. "H-Hey, Tim!" He glared lightly at them, and Storm sank under the table. Tom sighed. "How much did you hear?" Tim replied calmly. "Enough. Now Storm, get out from under the table." "Do I HAVE to?" "Yes." Storm appeared from under the table, and Tim immediately questioned her. She hissed. "I never said 'no'! I SAID 'why do you ask?'!!!!!!!!!!!! DOESN'T THAT MEAN ANYTHING?!?!?!?!?!?" At that point, Storm and Tom decided to leave, and Tim went to work on some new music, leaving Rich alone at the bus. Storm returned a few hours later, on her own, as Tom went to help Tim. When she showed up, Richard was outside, with a young Aquarian boy. "FINALLY! I've been waiting for you! Do you know him?" Storm sighed. "Hey, Nekoli." Nekoli was holding a red 'detonate' button. From past experiences, Storm knew instinctively what to do. "Where's the C4?" "On the bus!" "Where on the bus?" "In the oven!" "......WHY???" "........I don't know!" Storm bolted on the bus, reached into the oven, and threw the C4 several hundred yards from the bus. At that point, Nekoli pressed the 'detonate' button, and the C4 exploded in mid-air. Nekoli scowled. "Storm, you always ruin a perfectly destructive plan!" She sighed and herded him onto the bus. "I CAN'T GO IN THERE!" Nekoli screamed. "Why not?" asked Storm. "I need my bar-B-que sunflower seeds!" Storm sighed and handed him the bag of seeds. "Now, get on!" By this point, Nekoli was sitting on Storm's bunk stuffing himself silly with BBQ-flavored sunflower seeds. Storm tried to reach for the bag. "I want some seeds!" Nekoli scowled. "No. My seeds!" "Just give me one!" "NO!" Nekoli ran full speed out into the front of the bus. Storm followed him, and Richard just laughed. He had no intention of getting involved, until he heard a loud crash from the front of the bus. When he went to investigate, he found Storm and Nekoli fighting over the sunflower seeds. Storm had suceeded in getting the bag from Nekoli, and was using the fact that she was taller than he was to her advantage. She was holding the bag about a foot above Nekoli's head, and laughing. Nekoli smiled. "Have it your way." He reached for a bag of Strom's favorite chips. She stopped. "Those are MINE!" Nekoli smiled evilly. "Either the seeds, or the chips." "Neither the seeds NOR the chips!" "Knock it off or else!" "Or else what?" "Or else......uh....I'll - I'll - I'll......." "HEY! Fine. You keep the seeds. I'm going to get some food." She exited the bus and went for the nearest Saraku Japan, returning with Japanese teriaki chicken and soba noodles, much to Nekoli's disappointment. He sighed. "Aw, come on, no sushi?" She looked up. "Thanks! I almost forgot, here. Have some california rolls." Nekoli nearly exploded. "S-U-S-H-I!!!!! You're a good person! I take back anything bad I said about you earlier, Good-Person-Who-Brings-Me-Sushi!" Just then, Nekoli decided to stick his head out the bus window. He then screamed,"JARED!" He preceded to fly out the bus door and attack Jared, screaming, "Sunflower seed supply! KILL HIM!" Richard blinked. "What just happened?" Storm sighed. "I'll tell you on the way. Let's restrain Nekoli, and I'll explain everything." About an hour later, they had kept Nekoli from attacking anyone, and Tom and Tim had returned. Storm wanted to know why Jared was randomly wandering around Manchester, but Nekoli was making it increasingly difficult. So, Storm, full of unique ideas, locked him in a closet with video games, sushi, and sunflower seeds. There was no complaint from Nekoli, and Jared was able to get on the bus without being ambushed. But, Jared was wearing a t-shirt that read 'Blame Canada', so when he wasn't paying attention, she put a large piece of masking tape over it, and Jared didn't even notice. Before Storm could stop him, Tim opened the closet where she had locked Nekoli, and a sugar-high Nekoli came rocketing out of the closet. Tim sighed. "Storm...." Storm looked up. "Um, oops?" She decided there must be some way to shut him up, so she and Tom got a basketball, and Storm put on her best convincing smile, and headed for the still vibrating Nekoli. "Who wants to play Aquarian-Piscesball with Tom and I?" Nekoli nearly ran her over, screaming "AQUARIANBALL! AQUARIANBALL!!" About an hour later, the trio returned, laughing hysterically. Richard asked, "So, who won?" Nekoli looked up at him, and hissed. Storm laughed. "Don't mind him. He's just sore 'cause he lost." Tim, expecting numbers, said, "So, what was the score?" Nekoli brightened instantly. (He loved reciting Aquarianball scores.) "Picnic Table to Q to Purple!" Tim and Rich shot each other a glance. Storm sighed. "Don't ask." Tim smiled. "Don't worry. I don't want to know." The next day, everyone else was awake early - except Storm - which worried Tom, as Storm was always awake. He wandered over to her bunk, and asked her if anything was wrong. She pulled the stripey Moshi pillow off her head, and sighed. "I'm feeling the effects of last night's Aquarianball game. I have a migrane eminating from the exact spot where Nekoli hit me with that basketball. Speaking of, where IS Nekoli?" Tom looked around. "I don't know. Last time I saw him, he had hissed at Rich. Do you want me to get you some aspirin?" Her green eyes sparkled. "Yes, please." She went to put the pillow back on her head, and paused. "Can you also bring me an ice pack and that natural remedies book? Thanks!" Tom headed towards the closet where Storm's remedy book was stored. He opened the door and found Nekoli, sound asleep with empty boxes of sushi and empy bags of sunflower seeds - the book sitting on his head. Tom shook his head, took the book, and closed the door. "Alright, Queen Storm," Tom said with a joking smile, "Here are the supplies you requested, your highness." Storm, obviously feeling better took the supplies from Tom and laid them on the counter. "Ok, what was the Gemini power color again?" "Umm..... yellow, I think." "Right! Wait, what's Tim's favorite color? Wasn't it blue?" "No, it's green..." Storm's face lit up. "That's right, I had forgotten." | | |
